Surf Brothers Teriyaki knows its teriyaki.
This award-winning, family owned restaurant chain started out as a top San Diego catering company. Now there are seven restaurant locations throughout San Diego.
Although Surf Brothers Teriyaki is a quick service restaurant, there are some key differences between it and other counter restaurants. The chicken is delivered every day. This means it is never frozen and there are no preservatives. Both the chicken and steak are minimally processed. While the meat is naturally lean, most of the fat is trimmed off for a healthier product. In fact, you will find Surf Brothers Teriyaki’s food featured on www.healthydiningfinder.com, a site for customers who want help finding healthy food.
My family, including my husband David, daughters, Molly (21), Kelly (18) and son Jack (7), went to the Mission Valley location. The atmosphere is like a Hawaiian Luau. The menu focuses on teriyaki chicken and steak skewers marinated in Surf Brothers’ homemade teriyaki sauce. The meals are served with a cabbage salad and either white or brown rice. There are also shredded chicken sliders on the menu.
We ordered at the counter and within minutes our food was ready to eat. I had the two chicken skewers plate with 10 ounces of meat, a large portion of fluffy brown rice and a cabbage salad ($7.29). The chicken was cooked to perfection. David had the 5-ounce chicken and 4 ounce steak skewers with white rice and salad ($7.59). Kelly, Molly and Jack had the three chicken shredded sliders. These sandwiches are made with shredded chicken, cabbage salad and are served on King’s Hawaiian mini buns with a side of white rice. Even though the three of them loved the sandwiches, we took home three sliders since the kids couldn’t finish them.
If you want a taste of Hawaii and enjoy healthy food served fast, then head to Surf Brothers Teriyaki.
Additional locations in Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Jolla, Poway and San Marcos.
