Get the neighborhood kids together and craft star hats to celebrate Fourth of July!
You'll Need:
3 cardboard birthday hats
Old magazine(s)
Glitter glue
Decoupage medium (such as Mod Podge)
Paintbrush
Scissors
Tape
Here's How:
1.| First, use scissors to cut the tips off of two of the three birthday hats. The two small cones should be about two inches long.
2.| Use tape to adhere the two small cones to both sides of the third hat.
3.| To complete the star shape, use scissors to cut a triangle out of the front of the hat.
4.| Next, go through old magazines and cut out small pieces of red and/or blue pictures.
5.| One at a time, use a paintbrush to coat the back of each clipping with decoupage medium and adhere them to the star hat. (White glue thinned with a little water can be used in place of decoupage medium.)
6.| Cut a star from a white magazine page and adhere it to the front of the hat.
7.| Paint the decoupage medium over all of the clippings on the hat to seal it.
8.| After the hat has dried completely, use glitter glue to outline the star.
9.| Allow the glitter to dry and the hat is ready to wear!
More ideas and tips:
• Instead of using birthday hats, make the cones out of cardstock.
• Search for clippings in July issues of ladies’ magazines to find lots of red and blue.
• Instead of magazine clippings, use printed papers or hand colored papers.
• Try painting the hat instead of covering it in clippings.
• Further decorate the hat with stickers, sequins or tinsel.
