San Diego Summer Reading Programs
Summer vacation is a great time to get excited about reading! Many programs offer cool prizes and other fun incentives to spark your kid's enthusiasm for reading! Here is a list of programs to get started:
Free Kids Admission to the San Diego County Fair - Students (ages 12 and under) who read 10 books and have that accomplishment verified with their teacher or librarian can bring their completed reading certificate to the gate and receive free admission any day of the Fair.
San Diego County Library Read for the Win- Join the summer reading fun at your San Diego County Library with prizes, entertainment, story times, music, crafts and of course, lots of great books! Start by registering online at Read for the Win. Kids (birth through teens) can read books, magazines, and graphic novels or listen to audio books to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge June 15-August 15, 2016. Keep track of the number of hours spent reading or listening during the summer and earn prizes. You can read any book you want!
Barnes & Noble's Reading Triathlon- Kids in grades 1-6 can read any eight books of their own choosing, use the down-loadable Journal to keep track of their favorite part of each book, and take the completed Journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 16 & September 5, 2017 to receive a FREE reading book from the B&N featured list.
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge - Help set a new world record for number of minutes spent reading during the summer! The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free online reading program that runs May 9 to September 9, 2017. Kids can participate in weekly challenges, earn digital rewards, enter sweepstakes to win fabulous prizes, find great books to read, and more. Parents can print summer reading logs and achievement certificates for kids.
Read with Rita's - Read and get a free Kids Italian Ice at Rita's! Students who read and log four or more hours earn a free Italian ice. Pick up a reading log at any participating Rita's location in San Diego.
